Some Great Wedding Draping Ideas

Wedding draping covers a whole host of ideas, and it’s no surprise that being new to organising a wedding you find yourself a little confused with options, pricing and what you get. So hopefully this will clarify a few things to transform your wedding.

So firstly the material, voile is by far the most popular choice for weddings, you may see it called chiffon as well. It’s a light airy cloth that is inherently fire retardant (ours is, not all are), it can cover large areas and creates that magical whimsy feel many look for in a wedding.

Wedding Draping Pricing

OK so here is the one we obviously get asked the most. How much does it cost? So of course it depends, in this case it’s not how long is a piece of string, it’s how long is a piece of cloth. This is hard to work out yourself, and it can be deceiving as to how much you actually need. Here’s some ideas for a wedding on a budget

Take the photo above, thats 100m of cloth. It can get eaten up quite quickly, though it does depend on how you use it. The picture on the left is 120 meters, the centre one is 220m and the one of the right is 180m. So it’s roughly £6 per meter plus installation. In other words the more coverage or the bigger the building the more it will obviously cost. Estimate £700-£1500 for ceiling drapes, thats with installation it can work out less if you are having wall drapes no so on.

What Wedding Draping is Best for My Venue?

There is no right or wrong way to drape a venue, though some venues lend themselves better to a certain type of draping style than others. Here we see below some venues that are great for creating marquee style draping in.

You can see they are long venues and have an apex ceiling, these are village halls, great for creating an indoor marquee style with drapes. You can see what we;’done with the venue on the right.

For lower ceilings and square rooms, a star is the perfect way to drape the ceiling. Because there isn't room for an apex. Some people ask us to cover the ceiling, but this doesn’t work for these kind of venues. With a starburst, especially entwined with fairy lights we create a visual centrepiece, the ceiling almost goes unnoticed.

Examples of Starburst Ceiling Drapes.

You can see this style of wedding draping is effective and create a different atmosphere. Nearly always we use fairy lights as they draw the eye to the drapes and add to the atmosphere.

In terms of price starburst work out cheaper, since they use less cloth and the installation is cheaper, since when installing an apex, we have to use wire to span the room.

What Other Wedding Draping Ideas are there ?

What we’ve listed are only two ways to drape a ceiling, these tend to be the most popular, however there are other ways in which to make a room look amazing. There are many wedding draping ideas, such as half stars and swagging along the apex.
